Inevitably when one thinks about oil products, most think about only gasoline, diesel fuel and motor oil. But so many more products are made from or manufactured with Heavy Oil that it is absolutely astounding how essential to our everyday lives Heavy Oil production is.
Products that most of us use every single day include:
- plastic cups (fast food restaurants)
- fishing lures
- dice
- petroleum jelly
- shower curtains (I hope we use these every day)
- PVC pipes
- adhesives and glues (dental,plywood and many more)
- toothpaste
- wax paper and cling wrap
- industrial solvents and cleaners
- heart valves
- hearing aids
- lipstick
- insulation
In fact I can’t possibly list all the products in a single blog entry.
The “Greeniacs” would have you believe that we can just walk away from the Oil Sands, clean it up reduce our need for Petroleum and our lives will just continue unchanged. This is very far from the truth. Heavy Oil production is integral to the North American way of life. It’s absence will impoverish us all and diminish our lifestyle.
Shutting down the Oil Sands as the Green Movement suggests simply takes money away from small North American communities and gives it to hostile Middle Eastern communities. Importing Middle Eastern oil is never as cheap as is claimed due to deliberately not calculating and including the costs of invasions and occupations that are necessary to stabilize the supply.
Every North American should support the North American way of life and continue to let their leaders know that they support Heavy Oil extraction from the Alberta Energy Sands.
