I wanted to explain my purpose in beginning this blog.
My original purpose was to highlight a collection of domain names for sale that were themed around the Energy Sands of Northern Alberta. I had offered a small collection (perhaps 35) to the individual producing companies and relevant associations so they could market themselves to North American consumers and defend themselves against some extreme ideological attacks from the environmentalist movement. Obviously, my motives were purely profit based.
Since I began to blog here at HeavyOil I am slowly becoming convinced that these resources must be developed by and for North American use. Although I still wish to sell my now enlarged collection, the research that I have undertaken leads me to believe that this industry (that we so desperately need to fill our energy demands) has been unjustly targeted. Often instead of being factual or scientifically based the accusations are being driven by ideology.
My new purpose is not to defend the Heavy Oil industry, they have many billions of dollars to defend themselves with. Instead I hope to inform the reader that these issues are not as black and white as is often portrayed. Usually it is presented as the good guys on the left defending Mother Earth from the rapacious black hats of Big O&G.
When one steps back however and analyzes the mass of data it is clear to me that without the Energy Sands not only would the environmental destruction be larger it would be spread out to many different regions of the world. We would be dealing,(more than we already are), with regimes that are despicable in the manner they treat their citizens and completely irresponsible when it comes to protecting their own environment.
This is not to let the Energy Sands producers off the hook. They have much to answer for and I will address that in future posts.
I would like to say to the environmental movement – Thank You:
- For ensuring that North American environmental standards exist.
- For educating the North American consumer about our dangerous habits.
- For working to ensure a cleaner planet for all following generations.
I would also like to ask you to acknowledge the harm that would come to Western Civilization if we stopped using oil today. Acknowledge that increasing dependence on foreign conventional oil will harm workers, the environment and enrich monsters whose actions degrade humanity itself.
I support reducing North American energy demand to the point where it is met with North American energy supply.
